Auditory Flashbacks: Hungry Lucy

This is the title track from their 2010 album (lyrics here). If this isn’t pure, wild, refined beau­ty, I don’t know what is.

Look­ing back in time, Hun­gry Lucy has fit my tastes in a decid­ed­ly odd way over the years. I’ve been a fan of their work since at least 2000 with the advent of Appari­tions, but some­how their orig­i­nal work did­n’t end up in my col­lec­tion until more recently.

I real­ized it was all the more fun­ny when one con­sid­ers the many amaz­ing remix­es and col­lab­o­ra­tions HL has tak­en part in, like this:

And of course, dis­cussing their work would­n’t be com­plete with­out shar­ing that one spe­cial song that caught my atten­tion all those years ago, one that was wide­ly fea­tured on goth­ic music sites of the peri­od, and fea­tured at the Seat­tle Goth­ic Hal­loween Fes­ti­val not long after Appari­tions was released, in addi­tion to many live per­for­mances since then (includ­ing this one):
